Alessi — 5009/11 | Sottsass satin-finish steel coaster

A perfect disk. Eleven centimeters in diameter, made of satin-finished stainless steel with a polished edge that catches the light like a thin halo: the 5009/11 coaster is one of those objects that can sit quietly on the table and yet never go unnoticed. The matte surface in the center discreetly absorbs the marks of everyday use, while the gleaming perimeter gives the piece a precise, almost chiseled geometry. A simple act of protection transformed into a formal statement. It was designed by Ettore Sottsass, a pivotal figure in twentieth-century Italian design, founder of the Memphis group and one of the most original critical voices the design world has ever produced. Sottsass worked with Alessi with the same intellectual freedom that ran through his entire career: objects that are not content simply to function, but want to mean something, question the domestic space, and restore poetic dignity to the tools of everyday life. The 5009/11 belongs to this vision: in its geometric simplicity, one can see the hand of someone who knew that simplicity is never banal. We at Stilmobili chose it because it embodies exactly what we look for in table accessories: the ability to elevate the everyday without overloading it. It is designed for those who set their table with the same care with which they choose an outfit, for those who consider even the smallest accessory part of a coherent aesthetic statement. It pairs naturally with contemporary ceramic dinnerware, blown glassware, and raw linen tablecloths. Design notes: satin-finished stainless steel with a polished edge, diameter 11 cm, weight 85 g.
