Alessi — Birillo PL09 W | White PMMA cotton swab holder

There is an almost sculptural purity to Birillo, the cotton swab holder designed by Piero Lissoni for Alessi. Made of white PMMA, a polymeric material with a smooth surface and milky translucency, this small object transforms the most everyday of bathroom accessories into a moment of quiet beauty. Its cylindrical form, with its carefully calibrated proportions — nine centimeters in diameter by eleven in height — is never banal: it is the synthesis of a geometry that can be discreet without sacrificing character. Piero Lissoni is one of the most consistent names in contemporary Italian design: architect, art director, and interior designer, over the decades he has built a formal universe in which Milanese rigor meets a never ostentatious sensuality. His collaboration with Alessi — the Crusinallo manufacturer with an extraordinary vocation for turning industrial design into a vehicle for culture — has given rise to objects capable of inhabiting a space without overpowering it. Birillo is exactly that: presence without bulk. We chose it for Stilmobili because it embodies an idea of caring for spaces that goes beyond functionality. It is the right object for those who see the bathroom not as a utility room, but as an environment to be designed with the same attention given to the living room. Ideal paired with sanitary fixtures featuring clean lines, white marble or concrete surfaces, or as a splash of color in a bathroom with a more personal character. Project notes: matte white PMMA, dimensions 9 × 9 × 11 cm. Alessi collection, designed by Piero Lissoni. Part of the Alessi Palinsesto spring/summer line.
