Alessi — Compressioni ITM17 | Turned brass container

There is something deeply unsettling and fascinating about this small object: a brass disc that seems to have been subjected to an invisible force, an external pressure that bent it, crushed it, and forced it to surrender its original symmetry. Compressioni begins as a spun object and is then deformed - a technical and poetic gesture at once - returning to the table, shelf, or surface that hosts it a silent yet unsettling presence. Its diameter of twelve centimetres and height of just four make it almost a fragment of industrial sculpture, capable of containing small objects with the same elegance with which it conceals them. The project belongs to the Il Tornitore Matto collection, designed by Paolo Ulian, one of the most refined Italian interpreters of the relationship between the production process and the final form. Ulian never hides the “how” of an object: he displays it, celebrates it, and transforms it into a narrative. In Compressioni, the turning process - traditional, precise, almost artisanal - is interrupted by an apparently brutal act of force that instead generates a new harmony. The warm, precious brass absorbs this tension and transforms it into patina, into visual richness. We chose it for Stilmobili because it is an object that makes those who look at it reflect, refusing to be defined immediately. It is the ideal piece for those who furnish with critical intent, for those who recognize in design not only function but also thought. A refined gift, a small declaration of style for the desk or bedside table of someone who knows how to appreciate the difference between an accessory and a work of art. Project notes: spun and compression-deformed brass. Diameter 12 cm, height 4 cm. Designed by Paolo Ulian for the Il Tornitore Matto collection. End-of-line piece.
