Alessi Kitchen Timer A09 - Time Taking Shape

There is something fascinating about an object that measures time without hiding behind discretion. Michael Graves's Kitchen Timer A09 is a presence, a distinctive character, a visual story on the kitchen counter. Turning the dial to set the minutes becomes a domestic gesture with its own aesthetic dignity, far removed from the anonymity of purely functional tools.

Why we chose it for you

Michael Graves was one of the designers most capable of creating a popular language without sacrificing design culture. In this timer, different influences overlap - the rigor of European Art Deco, the lightness of American pop, echoes of pre-Columbian forms - held together with a coherence that only a mature creator can achieve. Alessi, an Italian applied arts workshop since 1921, recognized in this object something that goes beyond a utensil: a small piece of design to keep in the kitchen every day.
