Alessi — Fatman MW08 | Wanders folding steel cake stand

There is something theatrical about Fatman, a cake stand that is not content simply to sit on the table but inhabits it, transforms it, and tells its story. Made of 18/10 stainless steel, the folding structure unfolds with a precise, elegant gesture, revealing an unexpected silhouette: a generous, almost anthropomorphic body that holds fruit, sweets, or floral arrangements with the effortless grace of someone who knows they are being watched. The engraved decoration on the metal surface adds visual depth, playing with light and shadow in ever-changing ways depending on the time of day and the surroundings. Behind Fatman is the mind of Marcel Wanders, one of the most recognizable and visionary Dutch designers on the international scene, known for his ability to blend irony and luxury, artisanal tradition and formal experimentation. His collaboration with Alessi - the Italian manufacturer that for decades has transformed the table into a place of material culture - has produced an object here that bears all the hallmarks of his creative vision: excess as elegance, form becoming character, and the everyday elevated into narrative. At Stilmobili, we chose Fatman because it perfectly embodies the tension between function and symbolism that we seek in every piece in our selection. It is the cake stand for those who do not simply want to serve fruit, but to offer a point of view. Perfect as a centerpiece during the most important convivial occasions, yet strong enough to stand alone on a shelf or sideboard as an independent sculpture. We imagine it in settings that are not afraid of personality - contemporary kitchens, dining rooms with a bold character, and lofts where design is the lingua franca.
