Created in 1993 during a design workshop commissioned by Alessi to explore the communicative dimension of objects - their ability to move, intrigue, and entertain - Firebird was designed by Guido Venturini. With its subtly veiled erotic allusion, it divided critics and the public at the time. Today, in this reissue that expands its range of uses, it returns as a cult piece of Italian design: an electric arc lighter that shows how an everyday object can become a bearer of meaning. Founded in 1921 on Lake Orta, Alessi has always chosen to transform the ordinary into dialogue - Firebird is one of its truest examples.
