In the 1970s, Franco Sargiani and Eija Helander designed Programma 8 for Alessi: an organic system of small, modular, and combinable household objects inspired by the theory of open-system metaproject design. It was such a rigorous project that Alessandro Mendini described it in 1979 as "the most advanced household system ever created on the international stage." Today, Alessi - the Italian applied-arts workshop founded in 1921 on Lake Orta - is revisiting and completing that vision, restoring these pieces to their full design dignity.
