Alessi - "Mami" Stainless Steel Drainer

Alessi Mami — The Colander That Brings Back the Warmth of a Home Kitchen

There is something deeply familiar about the round, plump shape of the Mami colander: it evokes steam rising from a pot, the aroma of freshly drained pasta, and the quiet ritual of someone cooking with care. Stefano Giovannoni distilled the emotional memory of traditional terracotta pots into stainless steel, creating an object that belongs in the kitchen even before it is used.

Why we chose it for you

Alessi was founded in 1921 in Crusinallo, on Lake Orta, as a craft workshop, and has since established itself as one of the world's most respected research laboratories in the applied arts. The Mami series stems from a profound reflection on "potness" — a term Alessi uses to describe that domestic archetype capable of touching the collective imagination. Giovannoni interprets it through his own distinctive poetics of affection, transforming a kitchen accessory into an object with unmistakable character.
