Alessi — Mini Girotondo AKK80/13 | 18/10 steel coasters

There is something almost childlike yet highly sophisticated about the little figures holding hands along the edge of these coasters. The Mini Girotondo is an object that belongs to the collective memory of Italian design: a silent dance of stylized silhouettes punched into 18/10 stainless steel, transforming a functional accessory - protecting the tabletop - into a small visual ritual. The sheen of the metal, the discreet weight between the fingers, the perfection of the thirteen-centimeter circle: everything contributes to making each coaster a piece to admire before using. The Girotondo pattern was created in 1989 from an idea by King-Kong, the creative duo formed by Stefano Giovannoni and Guido Venturini, within the "A di Alessi" collection - one of the Alessi family’s most ambitious publishing projects, conceived to explore the porous boundary between an object for use and an object of affection. The repeated human silhouette, arranged as a module, almost like a primitive alphabet, became within a few years one of the most recognizable graphic symbols in contemporary design, appearing on trays, baskets, frames, and now on these elegant coasters in a set of four. At Stilmobili, we chose the Mini Girotondo because it embodies with rare precision what we look for: objects that tell a story without needing an introduction, capable of complementing both a formal table setting and an informal aperitif.
