Alessi — Ossidiana MT18/6 | Cast aluminum espresso coffee maker

There is something primordial about Ossidiana. The cast aluminum surface carries with it the memory of liquid metal, of matter taking shape under pressure and heat, and gives it back in a compact, dense, almost mineral body. The absolute black of the thermoplastic resin handle and knob is not a chromatic detail: it is a statement of intent, an aesthetic assertion that makes the object more akin to a piece of volcanic nature than a kitchen utensil. Six cups of espresso, thirty centiliters of daily ritual contained in a form that does not demand attention but gets it nonetheless. Mario Trimarchi, a Palermo-born designer who is among the most perceptive interpreters of the relationship between form and archetype, conceived Ossidiana as a tribute to raw material in its densest expression. Trimarchi - founder of the Intersezioni studio and creator of numerous pieces for Alessi - often works on the threshold between the recognizable and the unexpected, between function and symbol. In Ossidiana, this balance is expressed in a silhouette that evokes the traditional Italian coffee maker, but reinterprets it with a formal gravity belonging to another temporal scale. We chose Ossidiana for Stilmobili because it represents what we seek in every piece in our selection: an object that transforms an ordinary gesture into a moment of aesthetic awareness. It is the ideal gift for someone who already has everything and is looking for something that says something. It is the coffee maker for those who furnish their kitchen with the same care with which they choose a sofa or a work of art.
