Alessi — Piana ASPN3027 | Chipperfield folding chair in red

There is something paradoxical, yet perfectly coherent, about the idea of a folding chair that gives up nothing. Piana does this naturally: glass-fiber-reinforced polypropylene creates a smooth, taut, almost lacquer-like surface, while the red chosen for this version is not an accent color but a statement of presence. The silhouette is clean and resolved, without superfluous ornament — every curve is there because it serves a purpose, every millimeter of thickness is calculated to balance structural lightness and functional solidity. Piana was born from the pencil of David Chipperfield, a world-renowned British architect and recipient of the 2023 Pritzker Prize, known for a language that combines geometric rigor and material sensitivity. His approach to furniture follows the same principles that guide his buildings: nothing without a reason, nothing without a form. Designed for Alessi as part of the Palinsesto collection, Piana brings the same intellectual density that Chipperfield reserves for his architecture to an everyday object. At Stilmobili, we chose it because it elegantly solves a problem that design often ignores: domestic practicality. Piana folds, stacks, and moves — yet no one would mistake it for a conventional chair or an improvised patio chair. It is the right chair for those with little space and many guests, and for those who do not want to give up good taste even in the most functional choices. Ideal in a contemporary apartment, a studio, or a kitchen with character. Project notes: PP structure with glass fiber, foldable and stackable. Dimensions: 52 × 46 × 90 cm. Weight: 5.66 kg.
