There is something hypnotic about looking at Pleats from above: a perfect circle of 18/10 stainless steel that ripples toward the center like the fabric of a garment in motion. The surface is not smooth — it is alive, crossed by regular, precise pleats that capture the light and return it differently at every hour of the day. The design is by Jin Kuramoto, one of the most refined Japanese designers of his generation, able to work with industrial materials with the sensitivity of a craftsman. Kuramoto brings an essential and profound vision of form to his method: every line has a reason, every pleat a structural meaning before it is an aesthetic one. Pleats originated in the Alessi permanent collection and is part of the fall/winter lineup, a season when cold, lustrous materials find their most natural setting, reflecting candles, white tablecloths, and winter tables.
