Alessi — Plissé MDL16 B | Black De Lucchi digital kitchen scale

There is something almost architectural about the way Plissé rests on the worktop. The smooth, silent black tempered-glass surface engages with the thermoplastic resin structure in a formal balance that immediately reveals the hand of a designer accustomed to thinking on a large scale. The slim profile - just 2.8 centimetres thick - transforms a measuring instrument into an object that can take its place in the kitchen like a piece of furniture, with the same discretion and presence. Plissé is a design by Michele De Lucchi for Alessi, an architect and designer among the most influential figures in the Italian and international design scene, co-founder of Memphis in the 1980s and subsequently a leading figure in a design practice that has always combined formal rigor with a sense of living. In Plissé, De Lucchi brings to the kitchen his ability to make even the most everyday gesture meaningful and substantial: weighing ingredients becomes a small, precise, quiet, beautiful ritual. The rechargeable battery eliminates dependence on disposable batteries, while the practical wall-mounting bracket gives the object a second life, freeing up the worktop when it is not in use. We chose Plissé because it consistently embodies the values that guide our selection: quality craftsmanship, the authority of the design, and the ability to transform the functional into something desirable. It is the ideal scale for anyone furnishing a kitchen where every object is chosen with the same care given to a sofa or a lamp - for those who accept no aesthetic compromises, not even in the utensil drawer.
