Alessi — Spirale | Castiglioni Design Ashtray

Alessi Spirale — An Ashtray That Is Also a Sculpture

There is something hypnotic about the spiral shape winding in on itself, quietly resting on the table. The Spirale ashtray does not belong to the category of purely functional objects: it is a piece that catches the eye, invites you to touch it, and tells a precise story of design and vision.

Why We Chose It for You

Spirale originated as a design created in silver-plated metal by Bacci in Bologna, later revisited by Achille Castiglioni for Alessi in 1986 with several formal and dimensional variations. Castiglioni — one of the masters of 20th-century Italian design — was capable of transforming the most everyday object into a reflection on gesture and use. Alessi, founded in 1921 on Lake Orta and long a research laboratory in the applied arts, is the natural context in which this design found its definitive form: stainless steel, formal rigor, and a discreet yet unforgettable presence.
