Alessi — Tea Rex | Graves Design Kettle

Alessi Tea Rex — The whistle that made history, reinvented

There is a precise moment when the water begins to sing: when the steam passes through the Tea Rex whistle and fills the kitchen with an unmistakable sound. It is not just a kettle — it is a daily ritual that brings with it thirty years of design and a history that transformed a household object into a collectible.

Designed by Michael Graves in 1985, the kettle with its bird-shaped whistle gradually became one of the iconic objects of 20th-century design. For its thirtieth anniversary, Graves redesigned the whistle, transforming the little bird into a creature that is both mythological and futuristic: thus the Tea Rex was born, with a black knob and handle, small blue spheres on the handle, and commemorative lettering stamped on the lid.

Why we chose it for you

Alessi, founded in 1921 on Lake Orta, has been a place where craftsmanship and design culture meet for over a century. This kettle perfectly embodies that philosophy: an object that does not merely function, but brings to the kitchen the narrative power of a design that has spanned generations. The anniversary edition adds to all this the value of a numbered piece in the brand's history.
